What is Osteopathy?

Have you ever heard of osteopathy? No? Well, believe it or not, osteopathy is one of the oldest allied health professions available in Australia. It originated in the USA during the Civil War and since then has been split into two types. The first type, mainly found in the United States of America, osteopathic physicians are the same as medical doctors. The second type, located in the United Kingdom and Australia are allied health osteopaths who only treat musculoskeletal conditions primarily with their hands.

Who are Osteopaths?
Osteopaths are government registered primary practitioners who complete a bachelors and masters degree with a strong focus on anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, embryology and clinical diagnosis. This training allows osteopaths to utilise a holistic, hands-on approach and recognise conditions that may require imaging or follow -up with your general practitioner.

What do Osteopaths treat?
We treat more than you think! Osteopaths treat neck and back pain, arthritis pain, disc injuries, repetitive strain injuries(RSI), pregnancy-related discomfort, sciatica, sports injuries, whiplash, postural pain, headaches, migraines, TMJ pain and more!

What will my session involve at Foxwell Medical?
Osteopaths have a hands-on approach. During your consultation, Dr Nigel Jackson will assess your posture and core strength/stability, preform orthopedic testing and discuss with you the cause of your pain. Your treatment will then involve a soft tissue massage, dry needling, stretches, adjustments (if clinically required) and exercises for you to complete at home between your visits.
Depending on your condition, you may be required to return for follow-up consultations.
